Emma Russack Releases New Single and Music Video 'Be Real'

Acclaimed songwriter Emma Russack has release the second single ‘Be Real’, from her forthcoming LP ‘Winter Blues’.

A rollicking chord driven track, oozing attitude and bordering on punk rock, Russack depicts herself as a confused 17 year old, trying to change her appearance to find acceptance. Closing with Russack repeating the line “You’ve gotta be real”, the song preaches self-empowerment and acceptance of yourself, in the face of the pressures created by social media obsession.

Accompanied by Dylan Young (Way Dynamic) and Liam Halliwell (The Ocean Party), ‘Be Real’ is underpinned by a steady motor of bass and drums, which allows Russack’s impassioned and powerful vocal delivery to shine through. Bringing a more energetic feel than the piano ballad lead single and title track ‘Winter Blues’, ‘Be Real’ remains consistent with Russack’s honest and direct approach to song writing, offering genuine insight into her life and psyche.

The video clip, directed by Dannika Horvat, is a simple yet surrealist depiction of the disconnect created by technology and social media.

“It’s a snapshot of how insular and isolated people have become as a result of technology. I just wanna connect irl.” Emma Russack
